Position Summary:
At Aaniiih Nakoda College we aim to provide quality post-secondary education for residents of the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation and surrounding communities. Our College promotes individual and community development by maintaining and revitalizing the Indigenous lifeways of the Aaniinen and Nakoda Tribes and by preparing students to succeed in American technological society.
This AmeriCorps position supports ANC’s commitment to student food security and holistic student success. The member will contribute to the growth and development of the Food Lodge and associated food access programs, including the free lunch service and campus garden, to ensure students have reliable access to nutritious food. Grounded in ANC’s belief that students who know themselves and where they come from are more likely to succeed, the member will also coordinate cultural, engagement, and community-building events that foster student identity, belonging, and retention. Through data collection, resource mapping, and community partnerships, the member will help ANC build sustainable systems that connect food access and engagement to long-term student outcomes.
The AmeriCorps member will serve as a hands-on contributor to ANC’s food access and student engagement efforts. In the Food Lodge, the member will assist with extending operating hours, serve and prepare food for the free lunch program, and host cooking demonstrations to reduce stigma around food assistance. The member will develop outreach materials to increase student awareness of available resources and support maintenance of the campus garden. They will research and map food and basic needs resources on campus and in the surrounding community to strengthen ANC’s food access programs. The member will collect and track data from the free lunch service and engagement activities to measure their impact on student retention. They will also plan recurring cultural, wellness, and belonging-focused activities, and support campus and community events including food drives and the Halloween Masquerade. Throughout their service, the member will assist with tabling and outreach on behalf of ANC
Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE) serves as the intermediary for this project. MCNCE is a coalition of colleges and universities dedicated to fostering civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across Montana. Led by CEOs from participating institutions, MCNCE works to improve community life and educate students on civic and social responsibility, preparing them to be thoughtful, compassionate, and engaged leaders
