AmeriCorps Recruitment Specialist
The Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement, hosted by the University of Montana invites applications for a Recruitment Specialist to lead the AmeriCorps recruitment cycle of a statewide campus network, and support the civic and community engagement work of college and university campuses across Montana.
This position will support the work of a diverse statewide network of colleges and universities organized to advance civic and community engagement. The person assigned to this position is responsible for recruiting AmeriCorps and VISTA candidates, overseeing VISTA member reporting and compliance, and supporting training implementation and program evaluation for the MCNCE AmeriCorps and VISTA programs. The role works as part of a team, with significant responsibility and leadership roles. MCNCE will support AmeriCorps members with its statewide, campus-based College Coaches program, and its statewide VISTA program. These (full-year and part-time) members support college completion and capacity building initiatives, lead service projects and recruit volunteers. This position reports to the VISTA Program Manager.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads the recruitment process for MCNCE’s AmeriCorps and VISTA programs with the support of the AmeriCorps Program Specialist. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting new applicant intake interviews, reference checks, assignment to service sites, marketing, etc.;
- Developing and implementing outreach strategies to recruit candidates from regional and national academic programs related to MCNCE AmeriCorps program focus areas (i.e. research, faculty engagement, etc.);
- Writing and submitting service opportunity listings within the Egrants system;
- Creating and promoting web-based opportunity posts and advertising (via AmeriCorps.gov, social media channels, mtcompact.org, Peace Corps, Compact.org, Idealist, etc.);
- Spearheading local, regional and statewide marketing and outreach;
- Identifying and pursuing new channels for candidate recruitment.
- Co-Leads onboarding and enrollment.
- Coordinates with UM HR and MCNCE Admin Associates to make sure all UM paperwork is completed in a timely manner.
- Co-Leads VISTA Member Reporting and Compliance, including:
- Monitoring and reviewing VISTA Member Activity Logs and Work Plans;
- Developing and maintaining reporting and data collection procedures;
- Ensuring Members are trained on how to complete monthly reports;
- Evaluates the AmeriCorps VISTA program for efficacy and success of the interventions outlined in the AmeriCorps VISTA grant.
- Cultivates relationships among faculty and staff from postsecondary academic programs which share focuses with the AmeriCorps VISTA program (e.g., English, history, community engagement, environmental studies, Native American Studies, Political Science, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social science, public administration, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Professional experience in a nonprofit or higher education setting.
- Program or project leadership and management experience.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Understanding of adult learning theory, situational leadership, and effective facilitation.
- Knowledge of volunteer recruitment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including excellent public speaking skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations and stakeholders.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with office hardware (computers, telephones, printers, scanners) and software, including the following Microsoft products: Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Computer and software skills, including: Word, Excel, Canva, and WordPress.
- Knowledge about Montana culture and communities.
- Ability to travel throughout the state (less than 20% travel time).
- Ability to work independently and maintain consistent office hours, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, throughout the calendar year (including summers).
National service (i.e. AmeriCorps, VISTA, Peace Corps) experience.
Full-time, 40 Hours a week, Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year.
Salary: $21.27 Hourly

Graduate Assistant
MCNCE supports students, faculty, and communities across Montana with a broad spectrum of programs and awards that encourage and recognize community service, promote educational equity, and enable service learning and professional development. One of our major initiatives is the MCNCE AmeriCorps program, which brings up to 100 full-time and part-time national service members into Montana communities each year.
Currently, our grant focuses on empowering first-generation and low-income college students throughout their educational journeys. The MCNCE AmeriCorps College Coaches program specifically targets college persistence and retention by offering personalized mentoring sessions.
The graduate student will collaborate closely with the MCNCE AmeriCorps team to gather and analyze data for this year’s evaluation plan. This project will culminate in a report submitted to AmeriCorps and the Montana Governor’s Office of Community Service, highlighting MCNCE’s effective practices for implementing one-on-one mentoring sessions.
- MUST be a current UM graduate student;
- Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.);
- Proficiency with Google programs (Gmail, Google Drive, etc.);
- Background in public administration, social work, education, nonprofit management, sociology, or psychology;
- Motivated self-starter;
- Comfortable working with data and info graphs;
- Analytical skills
- Ability to communicate information effectively, both verbally and through writing;
- Support MCNCE in developing systems to track, record, and report program data;
- Compile data provided by AmeriCorps service members for grant reports and evaluation plan;
- Compile program data for MCNCE impact reports;
- Creation of infographics representative of compiled data
- Create sustainable data collection tools and guides for future use;
- Perform a stakeholder analysis to asses the needs for this program
- Other duties as assigned to support MCNCE operations and data systems.
- MCNCE is located in the Davidson Honors College (downstairs, room #020)
- 15-20 hours per week (We can be flexible to work with your class schedule!)
