The Montana Network for Civic Engagement offers opportunities to serve through AmeriCorps both through full-year positions and summer.

What You Can Expect From Service
As a VISTA, you will provide full-time indirect service, creating the infrastructure, capacity, and/or programs that allow organizations to provide services to more people with greater efficiency and scope. You will not regularly meet the beneficiaries of your service, unlike direct service.
- VISTAs serve with schools, colleges, nonprofits, and government agencies.
- VISTAs build an organization’s capacity by writing grants, recruiting volunteers, assessing community needs, building partnerships, or developing new programs.
- VISTA service impacts K-12 youth, low income and first generation college students, veterans and military families, and other populations experiencing the effects of poverty.
- VISTA service moves populations out of poverty by empowering communities to develop sustainable solutions specific to their needs and situations.
Service Term
Early August 2027 – Early August 2028

Eligibility Requirements
- At least 18 years old
- High School Diploma; Bachelor’s, or higher degree preferred
- Must be willing to consent to a criminal history check.
- Must not have been convicted of murder, as defined in 18 U.S.C. 1111.
- Must not be registered, or required to be registered, on a state sex offender registry or the National Sex Offender Registry.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or a U.S. Legal Permanent Resident Alien. Or legally residing in a state under one of the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status.
Living Allowance
- $957.46 (pre-tax) biweekly or $24,962 annually
In-Service Benefits
- $750 Settling-In Allowance + $0.40/mile Traveling Allowance for those moving more than 50 miles from their home to a project site
- Time Off – 10 Days of Personal Leave and Sick/Medical Leave
- Health Insurance
- Free coverage through International Medical Group. Coverage begins first day of service. Includes 24/7/365 access to virtual mental health care via Teledoc.

- If one prefers, a member may elect to remain on their own, family, or spouse’s insurance plan, or enroll/remain enrolled in Medicaid.
- Childcare Assistance through the AmeriCorps Childcare Program.
- Outside Employment – A member may seek outside employment so long as it does not interfere with their service activities.
- $1000 Emergency Expense Allowance at discretion of the VISTA Member Support Unit Director
End-Of-Service Benefits
- Payment of qualified student loan interest accrued during member service period
- Selection Of Either:

- $1,800 End-Of-Service Stipend
- 1 Year of Non-Competitive Eligibility Status when applying for Federal Government Jobs
- Preferred hiring through Employers of National Service, which connects AmeriCorps and Peace Corps alumni with employers from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors.
- Relocation Travel Allowance for those traveling more than 50 miles ($0.40 a mile)
What You Can Expect From Service
As a Summer Associate, you may be asked to provide either full-time direct service and/or indirect service. Through direct service, you will regularly meet the beneficiaries of your work. Through indirect service, you will provide “behind the scenes” support, creating the infrastructure and/or programs that allow organizations to provide services to more people with greater efficiency and scope.
What you would do will vary between positions, but your position will always be positioned to combat and alleviate poverty in Montana.
Service Term
Early June – Early August – (10 Weeks)
