Our service members serve the communities of Montana and the United States of America through indirect service to break the cycle of poverty at tribal community colleges and universities, sustain national parks, improve disaster resiliency, assist seniors, and mentor students.
Service members come from across the country, dedicating their talents and time to create infrastructure, capacity, and programs that allow organizations to serve their communities with greater efficiency, scope, and scale.
Through MCNCE, our 2026-2027 VISTA Cohort is dedicated to strengthening food security, educational outcomes for socioeconomically disadvantaged students, curricular development, and community cultural engagement.

Our Service Programs
Campus Corps VISTAS:
From Fall 2025 to Spring 2026, MCNCE conducted a statewide needs assessment and planning process for the Campus Network, supported by a Planning Grant from the Governor’s Office of Community Service. Over these eight months, MCNCE engaged staff, administrators, faculty, and students across the state to understand local and statewide needs and develop a coherent statewide strategy. Two priorities emerged: student belonging and hunger, supported by compelling state-wide data.
Nationally, 41% of college students experience food insecurity; in Montana, that figure rises to 51.7% across public universities, private colleges, and Tribal Colleges. Within the Montana University System specifically, 69% of students reported feeling isolated from others, and 81% said mental health negatively impacted their academic performance(Healthy Minds Study, 2024).
To address these needs cohesively, MCNCE created a VISTA cohort dedicated to cultivating belonging through civic engagement and combating student hunger by expanding food pantry capacity and other on-campus food access and reuse initiatives. Co-designed with those partners from project design to member training plans to individual position descriptions, in it’s first year this program placed 9 full-time Campus Corps VISTA members at 8 campuses across Montana.
We are proud to have VISTA serving at Aaniiih Nakoda College, Blackfeet Community College Student Success, University of Montana’s Bear Necessities, University of Montana Office of Sustainability, Montana State University, Salish Kootenai College, Miles Community College, Flathead Valley Community College, and Great Falls College. This is the accumulation of large amounts of work made possible only through the active engagement and support of our partners.
