Position Summary:

The Dixon School District, located in the town of Scilíp (formerly Dixon), is situated near the scenic confluence of the Flathead and Jocko Rivers by the CSKT Bison Range, is committed to a mission of providing a safe and transformative learning environment that prepares students to become productive, independent members of society. By leveraging a deep-rooted partnership with Salish Kootenai College (SKC), this project seeks to enhance the district’s capacity to serve its community through the strategic acquisition of grants dedicated to academic excellence, essential resources, and impactful community outreach. These initiatives are designed to dismantle the barriers of poverty by equipping students with the academic and creative thinking skills necessary for lifelong success, all while fostering a personal foundation built upon the Bison Be’s: being ready, responsible, respectful, and safe. Through this aspirational project, Dixon School aims to secure a sustainable future where every student is empowered to achieve their fullest potential.

VISTA member will expand Dixon School’s fundraising efforts through assessment, research and grant drafting. Goals of grant research include: infrastructure improvements, hardware upgrades, STEM equipment, program enrichment, basic needs support and increasing professional development opportunities for staff. VISTA will evaluate barriers and create a survey on Dixon School daycare access. VISTA will create print and digital materials that enhance Dixon School daycare awareness. VISTA will conduct a basic needs assessment of the student population and increase food security of students & families through strengthening of local partnerships and research. VISTA will conduct outreach and develop a partnership with Salish Kootenai College for a local native language project.

Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE) serves as the intermediary for this project. MCNCE is a coalition of colleges and universities dedicated to fostering civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across Montana. Led by CEOs from participating institutions, MCNCE works to improve community life and educate students on civic and social responsibility, preparing them to be thoughtful, compassionate, and engaged leaders.
