The Community Building Institute is a foundational webinar series that prepares early-career public professionals, and aspiring changemakers of all kinds, to address community needs in a responsible, equitable, and inclusive manner by centering the voices of community stakeholders.
This is accomplished by educating participants on the six-step community building cycle.
Community Assessment
Participants will learn about strategies for performing a community assessment to identify needs within a community, and to discover what strategies are already being used to address those needs. They will learn about the importance of communicating directly with community members when developing a project.
Stakeholder Engagement
Participants will learn about the different types of stakeholders they may encounter in community projects. They will gain understanding of the identification of key stakeholders, the assessment of stakeholder composition and engagement, and effective stakeholder communication.
Stakeholder Involvement
Participants will learn about the importance of assembling an advisory group to keep projects accountable to community stakeholders. They will gain an understanding of the many forms that community advisory groups can take and develop a greater understanding of effective meeting facilitation.
Strategic Planning
Participants will learn about articulating a clear, appropriate, and strong mission and vision. They will gain an understanding of how they can best help a team to navigate differing viewpoints to achieve compromise and consensus during the strategic planning process.
Strategic Plan Implementation
Participants will learn about setting goals and timelines for implementing a strategic plan. They will gain an understanding of guiding stakeholders through times of transition by utilizing effective change management to keep a team inspired and the community informed.
Project Evaluation
Participants will learn about planning for a project by identifying key inputs, outputs, and outcomes. They will gain an understanding of why they should incorporate forms of assessment throughout the lifetime of a project and how they can use the data they collect to plan for the future while communicating a narrative of impact.
